Vintage Design
Sarpi table designed by Carlo Scarpa for Simon Gavina with frame in brushed stainless steel, held together with visible recessed screws, Bologna, Italy, 1970. Glass table top with rounded edges, supported by the frame with rubber inserted into round brass supports. Excellent vintage condition. The Tulu dining chairs by Kazuhide Takahama were bought in 1970 together with this table and are in excellent all original condition as well. They are not included and will be offered separately. Simon Gavina produced a collection of designs that are true design icons. “Ultrarazionale”, which Sarpi table is part of, was a collection of sculptural works designed by Scarpa which were the result of carefully chosen materials, combined with well planned attention to detail and execution. from architecture to works in glass, from design projects to preparing museum exhibitions, the work of Carlo Scarpa has always stood out in the unmistakable way in which it manages to bring together his love for materials, his attention to detail and his masterly elaboration of organic and Wrightian poetics. Architect, designer and artist, Scarpa left the Venice Academy of Art and began professional work, but continued to visit craftsmen’s’ workshops and Venetian master glassworkers.
