Vintage Design
The armchair, model 400 (also called Tank Chair) was designed in the 1930s by Alvar Aalto. The offered chair is an unrestored, very early example with the very rare original zebra cover. The armchair dates from the 30s, early 40s and has an interesting history. Since the first owner of the Tank Chair lived in Zurich, it is obvious that it was bought in the early days of Wohnbedarf in Zurich. It was produced by Artek in Finland. The wood has a beautiful patina and slight signs of wear. It is intact and the armchair does not sag. The original zebra fabric and the original straw-padded spring core are defective and must be reworked/replaced for use (not included in the price). The Tank Chair is deliberately offered in its original condition. A very rare collector’s piece.
