Fine neoclassical Empire or early Biedermeier Secretaire / Drop Front Desk from Vienna, Austria around 1810-15. Ebonized veneer on oak. Classicist gable cornice with surrounding gold-plated egg bar strip. On the front of the gable there is an amazing original ink painting of a depiction of an ancient ceremony in a landscape and a secret hidden drawer behind. Pilaster columns with original gilded and beautifully patinated capitels. Interior in maple and pear wood with secret compartments. Archways and small ebonized columns with gilded capitels. All original brass fittings and iron locks. One-of-a-kind piece of excellent hand-made quality and greatly restored condition, ebonized and hand-polished with shellac. Dimensions: H 170 cm / 66,9 in. W 96 cm / 37,8 in. D 47 cm (closed) and 102 cm (open) / 18,5 in. and 40,15 in.
