A striking Model 403 Hallway Chair in red lacquer finish, designed by Alvar Aalto for the Paimio Sanitorium, later issued by Finmar. The armchair showcases a fluid design, with a gracefully curved plywood seat and back, supported by an steam-bent birch frame. The architect added interest and charm to the industrial design with a bright and cheerful red lacquer finish. This vintage example exhibits a lot of character, with the red paint lovingly worn to reveal warm birch wood underneath. Unusual red lacquer to the seat and frame appears to be the original factory finish. Chair retains early screws, suggesting that it is an earlier example. Wood selection also similar to other Finmar examples. Some chips to the edges, though overall the chair presents charmingly well.
