The LC8 stool, designed by Charlotte Perriand in 1927, is part of the LC collection, the result of the collaboration between Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, and Perriand herself. Its first presentation took place at the Salon d’Automne in 1929. In 1928, the designers designed two variants of the seat, LC7 and LC8, with and without backrests. The LC7 armchair features padding that wrap and supports the back and arms. Both seats are produced by Cassina in the “I Maestri” collection.
The iconic and versatile shape of the LC8 stool arises from the need to rationalize mass production using common elements. The trivalent chromed steel structure of the covering is in leather. The architecture of the LC8 stool is based on principles of rationality and modularity. The tubular steel structure is a reinterpretation of classic architectural elements, reinterpreted in a modern key. The essential geometry and balanced proportions give the stool a timeless elegance. The innovative concept of the swivel stool allows for great freedom of movement and optimal functionality. Its design is based on the human body as a measurer of space.
