Mogens Koch, also known as “the friend of the common people,” aimed to create high-quality furniture that could be purchased at an affordable price for ordinary households by making effective use of limited space. During several family trips to Spain, Koch was inspired by a wooden chair with a wide armrest used by the Spanish aristocracy, and designed a chair with two functions: not only as a chair and armrest but also as a place to put newspapers or coffee. He reinterpreted the traditional style of Spanish chairs in a simpler way. The design of the one-piece leather was also meant to provide relief to harness craftsmen who lost their jobs due to the popularity of cars. As time went on, the leather would stretch, so the chair was designed with a belt on the underside of the seat that could be tightened by the user. It is a strong, rustic, and beautiful personal chair.
