Alvar and Aino Aalto’s furniture reemerged from post war Europe on February 11, 1947 with the grand opening of Finsven, an importer with a small showroom at 925 Madison Ave, New York. This “Hallway Chair” dates to that era, exhibiting a wonderful Finsven mark, and general golden patina from decades of gentle use. Of note is instead of Aalto’s signature bent wood frame, this chair has finger joints, creating a sturdy, boxy shape that the plywood rests upon like a sheet of paper. This is example is brimming with warmth and character, exactly what you want out of one of these chairs. It is in fantastic original condition with some minor imperfections consistent with its age and use, as seen in photos.
