I believe this to be an early production chair in original somewhat worn finish. One of several designed by the Finnish architect Alvar Aalto during time he was building a tuberculosis sanitarium at Paimio, Finland. Cantilever design a principle previously applied only to metal furniture. This chair employed the use of curved plywood years before Charles and Ray Eames. The plywood seat and back are suspended between two U-shaped loops constructed of thick laminated Birch.
