Bruno Mathsson, the son of carpenter and furniture maker Karl Mathsson. Was one of Sweden most influential designers in the modernist field. His designs and work with steam bent and laminated furniture set him aside his peers like the Fin Alvar Aalto. The light, gracious furniture in birch and weaved fabric made a large impact not only in Sweden but had a great success in America as well. Endorsed by Edgar Kaufman jr. Mathsson was exhibited several times in the US and made connections with the American designer at the time. His meeting with Ray and Charles Eames had a profound impact on Mathsson and this pushed him into a Swedish take on the case house and open plan architecture that had not been seen in Sweden prior to his buildings.
