The Fritz Hansen Series 7 Bar Stool by Arne Jacobsen, designed in 1955
The seat is made of curved dark stained oak plywood, a technique he previously used in the Ant Chair. The series 7 Butterfly is seen as the crowning achievement of Arne Jacobsen’s work in curved plywood because the shape is perfect. He was inspired by Charles and Ray Eames, who were the first to successfully make some furniture from plywood. This innovative production method made it possible to give the Series 7 Butterfly an organic and charming interplay of lines, giving it the nickname ‘butterfly”. The recognizable design made it incredibly popular and made it by far Fritz Hansen’s best-selling chair.
